THURSDAY, DAY 5...

MAYDAY, MAYDAY...
hahaha, Patience tested to the limits.... Indeed it has been FIVE days of this RM 6 Survivor Series...
Who would have thought, of all people, ME, I managed to stay with the regime... hehehe

Yesterday had cravings for Bah Kut Teh, today?!?! Cravings for...
YONG TAU FOO
What to do? With a limited budget on hand, I decided to feed this craving of mine instead during lunch with just 3 slices of...
CHEE CHEONG FUN
RM 0.60 X 3 = RM 1.80

Earlier in the day, for breakfast, i had...
SUNNY SIDE UPs
(RM 0.50)
Added a few dashes of pepper powder for a little spicier note...

As for dinner, its decided that i would have to cook at home...
HOME MADE FRIED BEE HOON
A pack of bihun RM 1.60,
chinese white cabbage RM 1.19
fishcake RM 0.60...
Total: RM 3.39

Spent a total of RM 5.69...
Hmmm, not bad for a gluton like myself.... hehehhe

"Living below the line" Day 4

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Wednesday... Fourth day of surviving with RM 6...
(why did it even crossed my mind to take part in this project?)
Am beginning to miss my usual serving of Bah Kut Teh with pork tendons...
SLURRRRRP!!!
*sob, sob... mouth watering d thinking bout it...

Nevertheless, the thought of giving up is far from my mind... GAMBATEH!!!
On this very beautiful day, i decided to try something different, an omelette perhaps, for breakfast...

French Bean Omelette (breakfast)...
Eggs         : RM 0.25 X 2      = RM 0.50
French Beans : RM 1.29 (halved) = RM 0.65
Total                           = RM 1.15

I know that it doesnt look that tasty considering not much time was available to cook it... (I did my best!!!)
Then, on my way to work, i drop by my friendly neighbourhood "pasar pagi" to get my lunch so that i can eat later...

Surprisingly (again), i noticed that there WERE actually stalls that sells food at the cheapest available price...
*food at prices that was sold like 5 - 10 years ago?!?!

An aunty that was busy catering to her customers orders caught my eye... She was selling economy bihun / mee... & guess what?

Fried bihun with condiments only costs RM 2.50!!!
(fishcakes, long beans, sambal cockerels, half an egg & a pack of curry gravy with tau foo pok)
aren't I lucky to be living in such a neighbourhood??? hehehe....

since i have had such a RICH meal throughout the day, i decided that i should just bite on raw carrots for dinner... 3 fat ones (RM1.37)...

Just peel them, soak them in a lightly salted water & START MUNCHING!!!
* Naturally, the tiring efforts of having to chew on them will wear off the hunger... muahahah

Todays Budget:-
Omelette     : RM 1.15
Bihun        : RM 2.50
Carrots      : RM 1.37
Total        : RM 5.02 (RM 0.98 in savings)

"Living below the line" Day 3

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

After the holiday (Monday),

its now back to work, work, work... I decided to go for a reverse meal with my RM 6 for the day.. started off with heavy brunch of RM 3.50... Vegetarian Bihun & rendang mix....
Got this from the same vendor as the vegetarian kuey tiow my mom bought from me... muahahah...
then i had Hard Boiled Eggs for dinner before i go for my part time class...
I was freaking hungry after my meeting, which was held after my class ended at about 10.30p.m....After shower, i really couldn't resist the hunger, thus i went for a light snack... hehehe, no worries, its still within my budget...

HAIH, rushed home to drink water and took a nice shower, finished up a can of Baked Beans before i hit the bed... The beans was heated up by using hot water of course...

All in all, it was a very short day...

Vegetarian Bihun with rendang : RM 3.50
Hard Boiled Eggs              : RM 0.50
Baked Beans                   : RM 1.60
                  Total       : RM 5.60

Thus far i have managed to save a little something something everyday... WOW!!

"Living below the line" Day 2

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Woke waaaay early in the morning at 7am to get ready to participate in a paintball session at MAPAAC in Astaka Field, PJ... As Malaysians would have known, today is a replacement for the 1st of May, labour day holiday which happens to be a sunday...

Without breakfast, i hastily prepared myself & my gear to have a great time ahead... We were divided to 6 teams by virtue of drawing lots. After the entire morning slogging it out in the fields & having shot a few head shots upon my opposing teams, my team placed second.

By then it was 11am, and brunch was served... a choice between Nasi lemak (RM3/pcs) or Roti chanai (RM1/pcs)... I chose two pieces of roti chanai which came with a packet of dhall each; i ate the rotis & drank the 2 dhall packets.

RM 2 well spent for breakfast...

(The pics shall be uploaded once JITCO uploads it to facebook)

Went home after that and arrived at about 1pm... dozed off after nice long bath to wash off the dirt & mud of me...

I actually had my mom help me buy a simple vegetarian meal for dinner... GUESS WHAT?
RM 2.50!!!
All in all, on day 2, i managed myself with RM 4.50...
wasnt that a deal???

"Living below the line" Day 1

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Today is the 1st day of "Living below the line" and it was ok considering the fact that it is SUNDAY, when i was not obliged to wake up any earlier than 10 a.m. A tough day ahead with only RM 6 for 3 meals...

The challenge was easy considering that RM 6 can get me bout 18 curry puffs to last a whole day but the challenge for myself, was, however to survive within the budget AND maintaining a balanced diet...

Nevertheless, i still had my breakfast BRUNCH at about 11a.m, hehehe... which was two half boiled eggs.

Just to show that the eggs cost was actually RM 0.25 each... thanks to Pasar Borong SSW nearby my house about 5 minutes away... hehehe, lucky for me, my 2 years of kitchen adventure working as a cook serves me well this time around... My mom and I always shop der as the prices there are really a steal...

Next up, LUNCH... and RM 5.50 to go...
At this point of the day, i opted for a heavier carbo diet which was 2 cream breads and plain water to last thru the afternoon...
as you can see 2 cream breads costs RM 1.20; after deducting from RM 5.50, that leaves RM 4.30 to go for dinner...

Finally, DINNER...

Then this is how dinner was prepared;
All in all, i managed to save RM 0.29...

Here is the breakdown:-
Breakfast - RM 0.50
Lunch      - RM 1.20
Dinner     - RM 4.01
Total = RM 5.71...

Last but not least, i have to survive with lots n lots of home boiled water...
What the heck... i din think that i would manage but I DID IT!!!
Tomorrow shall be more challenging as its a working day....hmmmmm (planning of tomorrow already)
tata...

Unpredictable Life...

Friday, April 29, 2011

Yesterday, i found out that my sister (a law abiding driver)... got involve in an accident, her MyVi got banged from behind by a Prado (land cruiser)...

Life is unpredictable... We dun know what is gonna happen to us at anytime...
SO that is why, when i got to know a project which is to be conducted by Rotaract Club of Subang named "Living Below The Line".

Its bout how to live with USD 2 per day on food alone, of which after convertion its about RM 6 per day...

RM 6 per day for food alone...
come to think of it, I will take up the challenge...

One of the biggest challenges living in the city is to survive with all the escalating costs of living, and if I can manage to survive with RM 6 a day on food costs, IT WILL DEFINITELY DO WONDERS TO MY EXPENSES...

Imagine RM 6 X 30 days = RM 180 in total for food expenditure... hmmmmm, interesting...

Here are the rules and regulations for the project:-
It only applies for only food and drinks. Throughout the whole duration, you;
  1. Can get free water (boiled water, tab water), but not bottled/mineral water, those need to be counted in the RM6/day
  2. Cannot accept free meals/discounted meals, unless u buy near shelf life can food, or discounted pastries from bakeries near closing time
  3. Best estimate of price of food/drinks if you could not get the exact figure (e.g. half a bottle of strawberry jam = half price of the bottle, 2 sachet of milo per whole packet of 20sachets = 10% of the price of the packet)
  4. Can combine purchase of few days (if you are doing it more than a day). E.g. a loaf of bread and 10 eggs to last 3 days
  5. Electricity i.e. toaster, microwave, blenders are considered as free to ease the calculation
The challenge starts from 1st May 2011 and ends at 8th May 2011, but if it works, why shouldnt I keep it going?

Throughout these 7 days, i will be constantly updating daily on what i have spent my RM 6 on to survive the day... Join in too on the challenge if u think u are up for it...
